CDL Medical Exams

If you’re a commercial driver or are paid to operate a motor vehicle, it’s critical that you follow the necessary guidelines to ensure that you are fit to drive. One of those requirements is to receive regular physicals, as mandated by the Department of Transportation (DOT). CDL medical card physicals can only be administered by providers who are both are certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and are registered on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME).

Ziegler Chiropractic Clinic is both certified and registered to perform this type of medical exam. If you need a convenient, CDL medical card exam that’s close to home, work, or on the road, our practice in Allentown can accommodate.

What Should I Expect During My CDL Medical Exam?

Your DOT physical will usually begin with a discussion of your medical history. We’ll ask you questions about your health, any medications you’re taking, if you’ve experienced any health conditions, etc. Then, we’ll begin our physical examination, which will including checking vitals, performing a vision test and neurological exam, and conducting a urinalysis. The whole process should take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.

Please note that drivers are required to disclose all known health conditions as part of your appointment. Failing to disclose health conditions can result in disqualification for a DOT medical card as well as fines.

What Happens After My DOT Physical Appointment?

After you’ve completed your DOT physical, Dr. Ziegler will complete his assessment and then submit the necessary documentation. For your convenience, we also submit your registration to the federal webpage. Upon completion of your exam, we will provide you with a copy of the results and complete a Medical Examiner’s Certificate. Your CDL medical card is usually valid for up to 24 months, unless it is determined that you have a condition that requires monitoring.

You should arrive to your appointment with a valid driver’s license, an employer authorization form, a list of any current medications, a list of any allergies you may have, and your health history. If you have any completed medical exemptions or other test paperwork, please bring this also.
